TV Series Website Design

TV Series Website Design Brief
The Paul Ekman Group wanted to revitalize the official website for Lie to Me—the acclaimed TV series inspired by Dr. Ekman’s research on microexpressions and deception detection. Their goal: keep the series’ legacy alive online while offering a modern user experience for fans, researchers, and new audiences alike.
As a freelance web developer and digital strategist, I migrated the site into WordPress—modernizing the structure, maintaining the visual theme fans knew, and equipping PEG with the tools to manage content and community engagement more effectively.
The Challenge
The original website was:
- Built on outdated web technologies that limited flexibility
- Hard to manage internally due to its rigid structure
- Lacking mobile responsiveness and modern design elements
- Underutilized as a platform for fan and science-related content
PEG needed a site that could evolve with their audience—while honoring the visual tone and legacy of the original show.
My Solution
I executed a full WordPress migration and front-end refresh that balanced technical upgrades with thematic continuity.
Key deliverables included:
- A mobile-optimized design with clean, responsive layouts
- A back-end system built on WordPress for easy content management
- Thoughtful visual refinements that preserve the series’ recognizable look
- Structured pages for show details, science resources, and community engagement
- A platform foundation flexible enough to grow over time

The Outcome
The redesigned Lie to Me website now:
- Offers a better experience for mobile and desktop visitors
- Allows PEG to regularly publish and update deception science resources
- Engages fans more effectively through improved navigation and structure
- Maintains the aesthetic consistency of the original site, with better functionality
- Supports PEG’s long-term content and educational goals
