Golden Deli is a family-run Vietnamese restaurant and a staple of the San Gabriel Valley since 1981. With two bustling locations and a devoted customer base, their team needed a website that matched their in-person experience—quick, welcoming, and built for modern expectations.
As a freelance web designer and developer, I worked closely with the Golden Deli team to reimagine their site from the ground up—focusing on mobile usability, speed, and streamlined access to menus and ordering.
The Challenge
Golden Deli’s original site was:
- Slow to load and poorly optimized for mobile
- Built on WordPress with outdated templates
- Missing or incomplete pages that confused users
- Hosting a key feature—the menu—as a clunky PDF, especially frustrating on mobile devices
They needed a better experience for customers searching, browsing, or ordering food online—especially from their phones.
My Solution
Hand-Coded for Speed & Simplicity
Rather than relying on bloated templates, I hand-coded the site to ensure top-tier performance, reduced maintenance, and faster page loads.
Mobile-First, Responsive Design
I focused heavily on mobile UX, knowing the majority of visitors would access the site from their phones while on the go—or in line.
Menu Rebuild
I replaced the outdated PDF with clean, fully responsive HTML menus. This made browsing items easier and significantly reduced friction for takeout and dine-in customers.

Working with a member of the Golden Deli family, I helped shape the visual direction and ensured the site reflected the warmth and authenticity of their brand.
