Food Packaging Design Brief

As part of their efforts to enhance the guest experience, the Minor Theatre sought to create a unique in-theater treat: custom-branded Humboldt Chocolate bars. They needed packaging that would feel as timeless and authentic as the theater itself—while standing out as a premium offering to moviegoers.

As a freelance packaging designer, I developed custom layouts that respected the theater’s historic roots while navigating complex printing requirements to achieve a premium, memorable result.

The Challenge

Minor Theatre needed chocolate packaging that would:

  • Honor the theater’s long-standing visual identity
  • Appeal to both first-time visitors and longtime patrons
  • Integrate specialized print techniques (including white ink on kraft paper)
  • Feel high-end while remaining true to the theater’s accessible charm

The Milk Chocolate variant presented a specific technical challenge—requiring white ink printing on kraft paper, a process demanding precision and the right production partner.

My Solution

I crafted packaging designs that merged heritage and elegance seamlessly:

  • Brand-Integrated Layouts:
The design harmonized with Minor Theatre’s visual brand, using typography, colors, and layout choices that feel classic yet fresh.
  • Premium Materials:
To enhance the tactile experience, I selected kraft paper stock and coordinated with a specialized printer to successfully apply white ink—a rare but striking technique.
  • Custom Vendor Management:
I sourced and collaborated directly with the printer to manage proofing, color matching, and production oversight—ensuring the final result was as polished as the concept.

The Outcome

The final product:

  • Delivered a premium, tactile experience for Minor Theatre guests
  • Became a memorable brand extension—blending taste, tradition, and storytelling
  • Helped Minor Theatre offer a confectionery product that reinforced brand loyalty
  • Showcased how thoughtful design can elevate even small-scale brand touchpoints

The chocolate bars became more than just a treat—they became part of the theater’s legacy experience.
